About me

My Philosophy
I believe pregnancy and birth are usually normal, natural, and often transformative experiences, worthy of the utmost respect and care. I also believe we live in a remarkable time with advances in technology and medicine, which when used appropriately, can provide us with an increased level of safety and security. The timeless wisdom and instinct of our bodies, mixed with just a bit of modern technology and medicine, can be an amazing combination.
I am honored to care for and support birthing families and their babies, according to their individual needs, through what I hope to be some of the most precious times in their lives.
"I really felt like I was in good hands and that if any problems did arise, she would guide me through the next steps. She worked with me to have the best, safest home delivery possible and that's exactly what it was." Amy H.
“My birth at home with Amanda's assistance was peaceful. Amanda let me labor how I wanted to while she calmly & quietly got ready to catch a baby.” Dawnah M.
"Amanda was unbelievably patient and reasuring all though my pregnancy and birth. She knew just when to speak up & exactly what to say to keep me calm & focused. I felt safe the entire time I was in her care." Lena M.

My path to midwifery began shortly after the birth of my first baby in 2005. After a patiently supported pregnancy and labor with a Certified Professional Midwife, I felt a surprisingly powerful draw to the idea of becoming a midwife myself. I attended doula training, began midwifery school, and started attending hospital births just a few months later in late 2005. It is truly my life's work. I'd even go as far as to say it's my calling. It's hard to imagine doing anything else. It is my passion to provide families with attentive, patient and positive guidance throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.
I have since had 2 more children. Both of those pregnancies were also under the care of midwives - both Certified Nurse Midwives and Certified Professional Midwives, one planned in the hospital and the other planned at home.
I have spent time in both home and birth center settings. After working alongside another local midwife after my graduation in 2014, I started my own practice in 2016.
As a midwife, it is my passion to provide safe, respectful, evidenced-based care. I am so grateful for the opportunity to provide in-depth support and individualized midwifery care to pregnant people and their families here in Reno.
